My Jewelry is handcrafted of Sterling Silver, Copper, Brass and Bronze.
Many of the techniques employed in my designs; fabricating, bending, forming and texturing, I have discovered through books, workshops and my favorite experimentation. I love the process of taking a piece from a conceptual drawing then bring it into a three dimensional form. I keep an open mind during the process of creating and most times find many more designs evolve along the way. So, in effect, my designs and the activity of creating them, is an ongoing circle of inspiration.
I love to experiment by coloring metals through heat, patina and layering different metals to achieve a unique look. This is very effectively achieved using the process of piercing where one metal peeks through the foreground of another, which also adds depth and character.
Designing to me, is 3 fold,
1) External influences - all that we see and touch
2) Learned techniques - educating ourselves to go further in our art medium, and
3) Divine inspiration!! I believe the more an artist works with their tools in any medium the more creative ideas are born.
I have learned when I let go, there is this guidance I feel that is so clear that everything falls into place and a new creation emerges!!
